4 dad and mom of Illinois highschool athletes filed a lawsuit towards Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Excessive Faculty Affiliation in La Salle County Court docket on Monday.
The swimsuit claims that Pritzker’s cancellation of the winter highschool sports activities season “is an unconstitutional violation of the Plaintiffs proper to equal safety below the Structure of the State of Illinois.” The swimsuit seeks to bar Pritzker and the IHSA from implementing the cancellation of the winter sports activities season.
“[Pritzker] is utilizing this emergency statute to create these restrictions,” stated Laura Grochocki, the lawyer for the plaintiffs. “They’re presupposed to have a rational foundation. We’re asking why highschool sports activities have the restrictions and why school sports activities and professional sports activities don’t. Is there a rational foundation for the restrictions on excessive faculties? Or is there one thing else at work right here, why they’re allowed to play and excessive faculties should not?”
Trevor Until, the son of lead plaintiff Lisa Moore, took his personal life in Champaign in late October. He graduated from Seneca in June. Moore ran cross nation and monitor, was class president and took part in a number of faculty actions.

Kate Benton, one other plaintiff, is the mom of two athletes at Downers Grove North. Based on the swimsuit her two kids have been unable to be seen by school recruiters because of the cancellation of winter sports activities. Benton’s daughter, a basketball and softball participant, “has suffered socially with no contact with friends, has misplaced most of her buddies and barely leaves the home” in accordance with the swimsuit.
