MORBIUS Director Talks About Spider-Man’s Existence in This Movie’s Universe — GeekTyrant

Fans are wondering now how Marvel and Sony are going to move forward as far as each of their characters are going to intertwine in the future films. We know Spider-Man has toed the line, appearing in Marvel movies over the last six years, but now possibly retuning to the Sony banner. We even saw the Sony character Venom (Tom Hardy) cross over into Spider-Man’s MCU, and we are about to see the Spider-Man character Vulture (Michael Keaton) appear in Sony’s Morbius.

So does that mean we could see Peter Parker swing into Morbius’s universe as well? The film’s director, Daniel Espinosa, was asked about Parker’s existence in his film by CinemaBlend, and he responded:

“Of course! I mean, in almost all Spider-Verse or, you know, the (universes) that existed in the Marvel universe, if you read the comic books, the whole idea of that kind of – the Marvel string theory, if you would call it that. It’s very related to, if you remember, the alternative Seinfelds. You have a world where you have the same characters, and it’s ALL of the characters, but they are slightly different.”

This is a roundabout DC reference, as the Seinfeld episode he is referring to sees Jerry discovering the “bizarro” versions of him and his friends. Jerry is a fan of Superman, and this refers to the character Bizarro, who is the bad guy clone of Clark Kent. Espinosa went on to add:

“So in almost all verses, you have Spider-Man, or a Fantastic Four, or a Tony Stark, or a Morbius. But they will be different in tone. That’s not quite the way that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (is) approaching the idea, but they’re remaining to some core truth. Then you have the second kind of legend, which is about the totem. Which is that, in all universes, there is a spider totem. Which means that in all universes, there has to be a Spider-Man. Or a Spider-Woman.”

We previously reported that Morbius‘s star Jared Leto talked to ET at the Critics Choice Awards, and expressed the desire for a possible matchup with the current Spider-Man, Tom Holland. He told them, “I’ll tell you, I would love to get in the ring with Spider-Man. I think Tom Holland is amazing, and we’d make quite a dynamic duo.”

So we know he’s there, but we probably won’t see him appear in this film. Would you like to see Spider-Man and Morbius star in a future film together?
