Player of the Week: In singles, South Carolina’s Daniel Rodrigues is 14-2 from the No. 1 position. He is on a five-match win streak with all five of his wins coming over top-35 opponents (Nos. 35, 18, 19, 25, and 21). His win over No. 25 Florian Broska of Mississippi State, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, clinched the match for the Gamecocks. He also defeated No. 21 Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss, 6-4, 6-3. In doubles, Rodrigues is 14-2 from the No. 1 position and 12-2 with partner Connor Thomson. The duo clinched the doubles point with their 7-5 win over Broska/Ramskogler of Mississippi State on Friday. They then took down the nation’s No. 2 doubles pair of Reynolds and Engelhardt of Ole Miss in dominating fashion on Sunday with a 6-1 decision.
Freshman of the Week: Alabama’s Filip Planinsek went undefeated over the weekend, recording a pair of singles and doubles wins. He defeated No. 50 ranked Ronald Homann from LSU in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 while playing at the top of the order. He also recorded the deciding point in the team’s 4-3 win over Drake, again while playing at No. 1 singles. Planinsek battled through two tiebreakers in his win over Jeremy Schifris, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). He went undefeated in doubles winning 6-4 with partner German Samofalov against LSU and 6-4 with partner Patrick Kaukovalta against Drake.
